This registry is a privately-held registry, guided by a devotion to the improvement and preservation of cashmere producing goats, over bureaucracy and politics.

The Cashmere Goat Registry™ does not offer “memberships” nor does it charge dues. The herd book of The Cashmere Goat Registry™ will remain permanently open to any individual goat which adequately demonstrates its ability to reproduce in kind, in accordance with the breed standards and The Cashmere Goat Registry™ requirements.

Information provided on the application will be maintained with no relation to quality, desirability or value other than the worth of tracking and maintaining that information.

All owner/breeders must set their own objectives for improvement of body conformation, down weight, fiber diameter, increased yield, reducing intermediate fiber, increasing proportions of white colored fiber, increased live weight, improved reproductive performance, resistance to internal parasites and a reduction in foot problems for their individual breeding programs.

Taking Pictures of Your Goats

The picture reguired with the application must be of the Cashmere goat in fleece.

The picture you send will be on the Certificate of Registration.

Take the time to get a good side picture of your goat.

Strive for a clear picture of the individual goat with its head up, standing on concrete or other hard flat surface.

We want to be able to see the goat from the hoof up, standing level. Not with its head down eating, feet in a hole or hidden by grass.

It is to your benefit to have a quality picture to represent your registered animal.

Forget how you know your animal looks, and see what is really in the photo you are about to submit.

Catching the animal in a holding pen to take the picture is far better than chasing it around a 10 acre pasture.

1. Keep the lens of the camera at or below the animal's eye level. If you are standing upright when you take that photo, it will show him at a disadvantage, making him appear shorter to the ground than he might actually be. Take a bucket to sit on, or squat down until that lens is at or below his eye level.

2. Avoid taking pictures in full sunlight, especially between 10 and 2. The harsh sun can wash out all of the shadows on a white animal, making him appear smooth. Also be sure to keep the sun to your back or off to one shoulder, keeping yourself between the animal and the light source will ensure the best photo of the animal.

3. Catch the animal's attention prior to taking the shot. Remember you want him to pose, not run off!

4. Be aware of your animal's body condition when you take the photo. If your buck has been breeding 50 does or your doe just weaned off triplets, he/she may have lost a great deal of weight and will not look good. This goes back to seeing what the camera sees and not what your memory sees. Be sure to take the photo when your animal is at it's best, not it's worst.

5. Be patient and wait for that shot! If he's in deep grass, herd to him a bare spot. If he's facing away, move to his side. It only takes a few more minutes to get a photo that will let everyone see the animal you know you have. .
